I was already singing professionally for 30 years and teaching for 5 years when I encountered my last and most influential teacher, Holger Lampson, in Hamburg, Germany in 1997. I had just moved there and my voice was exceptionally tired from singing material too low and heavy for my voice. He was one of the main representatives of the Werbeck School of Unveiling the Voice, a wholistic technique developed by swedish singer Valborg Werbeck-Svärdström. Studying this technique and its philosophy with him revolutionized my approach to singing and teaching.
As this technique enlarged what I already arrived at through study and practice, it gave me the concepts and words to describe this experience I and others had. It also showed me that all people are vocally capable of much more that they generally think they are, that the Voice has to do with the whole person – past, present and future. It showed me how powerful and empowering the True human Voice is.
I incorporated many aspects of this method into my own teaching method which I have developed over the years, partially for which I can thank the singers and teachers who have taught, coached and inspired me to develop and express my own True Voice: Isabel Williamson, Robert Brewster, Robert Edwards, Jacqueline Bobak, and Holger Lampson.
I have been teaching and doing voice work with others now 22 years. I am more committed to my work than ever because I have witnessed time and again how singing transforms lives. My students and clients are my constant inspiration.
